My first fathers day treated like a father

My first fathers day treated like a father

Carols boys (David and Matthew) started calling me dad 30 seconds after their mother accept my marriage proposal.  They wanted to call me dad for sometime before that but I wouldn’t let them.  I’m pretty excited about Fathers day because I now I have another day of the year where I can get special treatment.  My birthday falls on Dec 25th so I’ve had to be quite content with getting the bulk of my yearly gifts in one shot.

There was something about Fathers day that is so much more of a gift.  On Friday, Matthew’s preschool had a Fathers day party.  It lasted a mere 40 minutes.  The kids sang a couple of songs and we played some games.  It was really special for me because I remember what it was like to go through these events on Mothers day.  For most of my younger days I was raised solely by my father and Mothers Day really sucked.

Matthew never really knew his dad as he had died when he was really young.  This was going to be his first real Father’s day event and he had someone he could honestly call dad.  Matthew was soooo excited to see me when I showed up.  I was really touched.

What a great story. This is how lives are changed forever. It is the work of God. You are a living example of all those passages about the fatherless and the widow. You have the heart of God.

It’s so amazing to hear. God be near your little family.
