The word of God and the Emerging Church

The word of God and the Emerging Church

This article states “Further, in the emerging church the Word of God takes a secondary position to the worship of God.”

I thought that the word was a means to an end, not an end in itself.  Scripture is the highest authority for framing our theology so that we can follow Christ.  The point isn’t the scriptures themselves.  Let’s face some truths about the protestant reformation.  Merely flooding people with scripture through preaching results in very little life change.  By moving away from this approach we aren’t necessarily disregarding scripture.  We bring other elements in to their proper place.

Makes a lot of sense to me.

I understood it that the Angels were created to worship and serve God, whereas Man, being of the very image of God and possessing free-will, was created to ‘choose’ to worship and serve God.

The worship of God is most important…the first commandment is ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.’ Our purpose is to worship and serve Him in all things. The proper understanding and teaching of the Word of God IS an act of worship.

Therefore, Worship of God should be in a primary position above all else, but, because everything else constitutes worship, their is no second place. The article merely sounds like a rather poor attempt at demonstrating that EC is just another ‘happy clappy’ grouping, more interested in having a good time on a Sunday morning than the serious meaty issues that seem to be the obsession of the rest of the (dying) Church!

Whoever said Christians aren’t allowed to have a good time in God’s Presence? (Apart from vast swathes of both Protestants and Catholics of course) – He is Abba, Daddy and, just as I love to play with, cuddle, tickle and kiss my 6 month old son, so does God long to with us. He is a running, kissing, laughing, singing God after all. Isn’t it a great thought that God loves to hear you laugh for no other reason than he is Dad?
