Ephesians

Ephesians (Net Bible)
1:17
I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you spiritual wisdom and revelation in your growing knowledge of him, 1:18 —since the eyes of your heart have been enlightened—so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 1:19 and what is the incomparable greatness of his power toward us who believe, as displayed in the exercise of his immense strength. 1:20 This power he exercised in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms 1:21 far above every rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 1:22 And God put all things under Christ’s feet, and he gave him to the church as head over all things.

We talk and talk and talk. Deconstruction, rethinking, reimagining.  Maybe we need more spiritual wisdom, more revelation, a growing knowledge of him.  Maybe we need the eyes of our heart enlightened.  Maybe we need to know the hope of his calling, the wealth of his inheritance and the incomparable greatness of his power toward us.  Perhaps the church is weak because we have disconnected from our source of hope, wisdom, knowledge and power.

If Paul were here today I wonder what he would say.

I think that you are on the right path. I used to think discussion would help, would enlighten me to a higher calling. Now after almost 4 years of this Christian thing. Discussion is lower down on my list of priorites. And one of my first priorities is this. I want to know the power that resurected my Lord from the dead.

I pray for the fire of the Holy Spirit to rake my body and burn what is me out, and replace it with Christ. I just find that talking is a start, But to feel the power of Christ and his Spirt roar through you, you must stop talking about how great it would be to be walking in the power. And start praying for it, praying that The Spirit would rush you like a middle line backer and sac you, and that he would demolish all of you, so that the Spirit of Christ can finnaly ressurect the dead in you, so that you may know the love that brought Jesus from the dead to a resurected life.

    disclaimer:

This wasn’t much of a disscussion piece, But this is the path that I am on right now. and I guess I say these things because I have seen the power of Christ pour through me as I pray for his fire. I have prayed and people have been healed, I have seen demons and angels fighting. and have heard Jesus speak, asking me to enter in this battle. so finally, I am not special, or chosen by God to expirence these things, no I just asked for his fire to clean me out, that that he would enlighten me to what is on his heart. And It is not me doing these things but Jesus’ Spirit inside of me.

    Leighton,

Hope you don’t mind my poking my nose in again but just a couple of things.

To James I would like to offer encouragement in his pursuit of GOD. Matthew 7:7 and Luke 11:9 say the same thing; that if you keep up in this endeavor you will be rewarded.Hebrews 11:6 Stay the course! GOD’S promises are yes in CHRIST!

I found your post to be right on target. Discussion and arguement for the sake of themselves is useless. However we should not be afraid to confront when necessary. (nor be afraid to admit if we are wrong in that). As far as reimagining goes;it can be a slippery slope.2Cor 10:3-5.We need to continually examine our motives in all we say and do.

Ephesians is such a great letter as it addresses the standing of the Church before GOD in eternity. HE sees all things in their completeness and makes it to be so. (Isaiah 46:9-11).It is so easy to list the flaws that exist in the “institution”. I do not defend the practices that pass themselves off as “church”. I could make a list a mile long of all that could be corrected. Is that our area of responsibilty? Eph 2:14-16 tells me that the work of “deconstructing” is done in and through JESUS CHRIST alone.

There is nothing that happens without HIS foreknowledge, including the screwed up church.

“HE put all things in subjection under HIS feetand gave HIM as head over all things to the Church, v.23which is HIS Body, the fullness of HIM who fills all in all.You stopped in your quote just before v.23 which is awesome in its implications past, present and future.

Finally chapter 1:20 finds its counterpart furthur on in chapter 2:6-7.Someday I pray that we as HIS Body, the Ekklesia will discover that our worldview must be HIS worldview, our perspective HIS heaven towards earth perspective. That we begin our walk from a seated position (a position of resting). The LORD Himself will get the Church where it needs to be. Chapter 5:25-27 same letter.

Thanks for for your obedience in providing a place to share.

    Sola Scriptura,

    Chris P.

I think you are right on with what we need. I suspect Paul would tell us we have missed out on a lot of stuff. And then again he might find that there are places where God’s hope, wisdom, knowledge and power reside. And I think the form of worship in those places would take many shapes. The important thing would be the hearts of the people there and whether Christ is being sought earnestly by them.
