LT, this hits me exactly where I am right now. I am frustrated by the lack of real change in my heart and want to respond with genuine love for others. Unfortunately, I am powerless to accomplish this and so I give up in frustration. I regularly ask God to change my heart, but it feels like there is something in the way and I always have thought that it was me. I’ll check out the videos you posted on shame as they may really apply to me.

Luke and I watched the movie last year and came away thinking that it was a very Americanized version of Christianity and one that involved a lot of guilt and works. It did indeed bring me back to youth rallies and pledges and reaching the right combination of deeds to “ability activate” God’s strength (great imagery!). Good review – I wish I had read it before I succumbed to peer pressure and watched it.

Wow, very insightful that kind of sums up how I have been feeling for the last few years, (if I was just a better dad, or husband or whatever else) and if I just tried harder then maybe things will be better, but they just get worse. Thanks Leighton.

The social implications of the economic reality of the growing gap between the 99′ers and the 1%’ers have yet to be fully grasped by the average American–let alone grappled with by the powers-that-be. Yeah, it was at Mike’s funeral when I first “laid eyes on you.” I had read many of your posts on theheresy, but that was my first face-to-face encounter.

I have some great memories about some serious talks that Mike and I had–I could relate to him, partly because I come from a family of electronic geeks.

As far as I can make out his excellently enunciated French, Justin is saying that he doesn’t want to see a Canada that has become weak -spirited, that has become closed, has become anit-intellectual, that begins to foment division, that begins to deprive its citizen of their rights.
